Bex and Dan’s celebrations at Cley Windmill were a little different, a bird themed wedding was the perfect choice for the surrounding Norfolk Norfolk landscape.

Styled in hues of gold, mango and royal blue, this wedding had surprises around every corner. Their bird obsession was first evident in the stunning selection of florals. Bex’s flower crown was sensational and elevated her gold lace gown into the style stratosphere. Dan was equally suited in a perfect hued tweed suit with gold detailing. As with all weddings at this time of year, daylight was at a premium. To maximise their time outside later in the afternoon, Bex and Dan opted for a first look. Dan’s expression said it all. We continued with their portraits in locations around the mill before the ceremony; locations which I felt captured the venue and their styling to add to their story as authentically as possible. The orange popped so beautifully against the brown reeds and neutral flint walls.

As a surprise for the guests, Bex and Dan had persuaded SMJ Falconry to travel down from West Yorkshire with a huge selection of magnificent birds including owls, vultures, eagles, hawks and even a raven. Before the ceremony a flying display was organised and was stunning to witness the majestic red kite over the Cley reeds. The surprises didn’t end there as harris¬†hawk Oslo flew through the windmill’s window to deliver the rings to best man Rodrigo. I can’t remember a ceremony with so much emotion and drama.

Everyone headed out into the garden to handle the birds of their choice until dusk fell. Before capturing the cake cutting, I had one image more up my sleeve. It was now drizzling again, but the results were worth the few minutes outside with the mill in the background. I don’t imagine I’ll ever be a part of a wedding like this again, this was something a little special. Congrats B+D.
